Since 1951 the Refugee Council has worked directly with thousands of refugees and asylum seekers each year, supporting them from the moment they arrive in the UK. In 2016, the UK celebrated 65 years of being signatories to the UN Convention on Refugees, however, under the political climate of the time, there was a threat it would withdraw.
